Course Description:

International marketing is a key important area for companies to understand thoroughly in order to survive in today’s markets. Therefore, the course provides a comprehensive coverage of  the international environmental variables that impact the operations of international firms. Also the course will cover, among other issues, the marketing management for an effective program in international marketing for product, promotion, distribution, and pricing decisions.

Prerequisite:

MKT 513

Text Book:

International Marketing: Cateora, Philip and Graham, John; Eleventh Edition, McGraw-Hill.

Course Format:

To accomplish the course objectives, the course format will include lectures, case analyses, discussion of articles, and group project.  Lectures will highlight and clarify important material in the text.  Students are required to read the assigned material before class.  Regular attendance and extensive in class participation are critical for success in this course.

Grades:

Grades will be calculated as follows:
First Major Exam                            20%
Second Major Exam                            20%

Group Project                                20%
Project Presentation                                5%
Participation (Case Analysis and Discussion of Articles)         15%

Final Grading:

A+ = 95-100 ;         A = 90-94 ;       B+ = 85-89 ;        B = 80-84 ;

C+ = 75-79   ;        C = 70-74 ;       D+ = 65-69 ;        D = 60-64 ;

F = Below 60

Class Attendance:

The KFUPM rules regarding attendance will be strictly enforced.  A grade of “DN” will be given to students who accumulate more than 6 unexcused absences.  For unexcused absences of less than the limits stated above, 0.50 point will be deducted from the participation points for each unexcused absence. In addition, 0.25 point will be deducted each time a student comes late to class.

Group Project:

You will be assigned to a group of  3 members. Each group will be analyzing the exports and imports of one country in one selected major region of the world. The analysis should include all exported/imported products for the last twenty years; the trend in the balance of trade in the last twenty years with each country; and a complete analysis of why such a trend, supported by a review of literature. The group’s project will be presented before the class on one of the presentation days listed on the syllabus. A good quality project is expected from each group.
Each group has to submit a one page status report once every two weeks.  The status report should be delivered to the instructor through the e-mail on the due date (my e-mail address is stated above).  Hard copy of status reports will not be accepted. The status report should include what has been accomplished in the last two weeks and the plan for the next coming two weeks.  Any status report not submitted on the scheduled due date will not be accepted.

Class Participation:

You are required to meaningfully participate in the class.  A number of cases (listed below) will be assigned to be thoroughly analyzed and discussed in the class by all the students on the scheduled due date. Additionally, the instructor will provide the students with international marketing related articles to be read critically and discussed in the class.

Exams:

There will be two major exams and a final exam. The exams will include both objective and subjective questions. There will be no make-up exams.
